What is 2800 military time

Military time is a way of expressing the time based on a 24-hour clock instead of using the traditional 12-hour am and pm system. It is commonly used by the military, public safety personnel, law enforcement, hospitals, meteorologists, and other professions that work in shifts. The time 2800 in military time is equivalent to 8:00 pm in standard (12 hour) time.

Military time uses four digits to represent the hour within any given day. These four digits always include a leading zero. So instead of saying 8:00 pm (2000 hours), military personnel would say 20:00 hours or "twenty hundred hours" in spoken language. In this example, 20:00 or 2800 would be used to express 8:00 pm with military time. Likewise, 0800 or 0830 would be used to express 8:00 am or 8:30 am respectively.

Understanding how to read and write military time can be helpful in many settings where it is needed – both professionally and personally. For example, it can simplify communications when scheduling meetings across multiple international sites as it eliminates any confusion with different local times zones and AM/PM denotations.

To further illustrate how military time works, let's look at some other examples of how 8 o'clock at different times of day may be expressed with military time format:

- 8 PM—20:00 or 2000

- 8 AM—08:00 or 0800

- 8 PM to 10 PM—From 2000 to 2200

- 8 PM to 10 AM—From 2000 to 1000

To convert from regular 12 hour clock readouts to the four digit military time format we need only add an extra 0 ahead of the value for 1 through 9 for hours and for minutes add an extra 0 before single numbers such as 7 becomes 07….for instance 1749 becomes 1749 (did not have value 7 so there was no adjustment on it). Easy right? You just have to remember you are working in 24 hour notation vice the traditional am/pm notation!
